Grouse Mountain, Vancouver Canada
Just 15 minutes from downtown, Grouse Mountain is one of the main ski and snowboard resorts in Vancouver. The base of the mountain is easily accessible from the Auberge Hotel by car or public transportation. To get to the top of Grouse Mountain you can either take the SkyRide, an aerial tramway that offers spectacular views, or you can hike up the Grouse Grind. The Grouse Grind is a steep trail that winds up through the towering Douglas Firs. While it takes the average person 90 minutes to complete, the intense climb is worth it when you get to the top, where breathtaking views of Vancouver, the Pacific Ocean, Gulf Islands and snowy peaks await.
Or take a scenic gondola ride to the top and enjoy the many amenities inside the alpine chalet, including casual lunch and après ski lounges, two fine dining restaurants, a theatre and gift shop. During the winter months, outdoor activity options include skating in the outdoor ice rink, snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding.
During the warmer months, there are beautiful hiking trails suitable for all levels. Adrenaline junkies zip line across the peaks and canyons of Grouse and Dam Mountains. Birds in Motion demonstrations allow you to witness majestic birds of prey in free flight. And the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife – which is home to two grizzly bears, Grinder and Coola – is a truly rewarding and memorable experience.
