While winters in the Pacific Northwest tend to be cold & rainy, as soon as the temperatures hover around freezing, the chances are great that you’ll see the precipitation turn to snow prompting scores of ski and snowboarding enthusiasts to hit the local slopes. Take a short drive across the Lions Gate Bridge to Grouse Mountain on the North Shore, only 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Start your adventure at the base station, where you’ll board the Sky Ride, one of the largest aerial tramways in North America; now get set to be wowed by 8 minutes of jaw-dropping city and ocean vistas as you make your ascent 2800 ft up the mountain to the Peak Chalet. Once you exit the tram, take in the scenic alpine view either from the ski runs or if you’d prefer something a little more leisurely, experience the stunning panorama of the cityscape from the observation deck adjacent to the bistro located in the Chalet. If you’re not in the mood for downhill action, there’s plenty of other activities to engage in: try the snowshoe trails of Blue Grouse Loop, glide on the outdoor skating rink or grab a sled at the Slide Zone. Or if you’d prefer, take a little stroll at dusk through the illuminated Light Walk around Blue Grouse Lake for a spectacular light show. As your mountain adventure comes to a close, don’t forget to take a selfie with the backdrop of a city & water panorama down below while on the Skyride back to the base!
